It’s the neighbourhood that’s home to the greatest number of tourist attractions, and there’s nothing quite like waking up to a panoramic view of the Hagia Sofia and Blue Mosque. And, of course, there are always hotels, which Viaggi in Turchia usually start at around $ a night for a good midrange option and go up from there. You’ll have slightly more luxury and comfort in hotels, so it’s up to you to work out whether this is worth the additional expense.
Getting Around The Turquoise Coast
From the amazing stuffed grape leaves to creamy hummus and smoky baba ganoush, tzatziki, eggplant salad, and who knows what else, each plate is slightly different, but equally delicious! Meant to be shared as an appetizer and often priced per dish, it’s really up to you how much you spend, but it usually won’t be more than about $5-7 per person. Turkey has fewer traffic-related fatalities than the U.S., so you won’t be putting yourself in grave danger by opting to hire a car. They drive on the right in Turkey and manual transmission is far more common. I’ve used a lot of rental car companies over the years, but always seem to score the cheapest deals with Discover Cars, so that’s who I stick with these days.

At the center of this culture are a large number of bazaars and markets that can be found in the city. Istabul’s Bazaars are world-famous and you can not leave Turkey without visiting at least one of them. Walk over the Galata bridge and get on top of the tower to enjoy the sunset. The walk from Sultanahmet Square to Galata Tower is around 3 kilometers.
Turkey works really well for solo travel, mixing guided tours with free time to explore on your own. The Essential Turkey tour runs 9 days from Istanbul’s spice markets all the way to the Mediterranean coast. Our solo travelers tell us they love stopping in Canakkale – it’s a university town where you can easily find travel friends at the bars along the Dardanelles or catch some local music. There’s a cool social enterprise in Ayvalik where local women create products from recycled materials, and in Selcuk you can join cooking classes if you want. Travelers often tell us how much they love staying in Cappadocia’s cave hotels, where mornings start with hot air balloons drifting past private terraces at dawn.
I want to remind you to sure that your camera (or phone) is fully charged before arriving. Cappadocia has two airports – Kayseri Erkilet Airport (ASR) in Kayseri and Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport (NAV). To see the views of the Bosphorus, Marmara Sea, and Princes’ Islands, head to the park’s northeastern edge. If you are the kind to eat an early dinner, then interchange the next two points. The Blue Mosque closes for prayers a few times a day and on those times the entry is restricted. Please note that it takes around one hour to visit the Sultan Ahmed Mosque because it is a big complex and the entry for visitors is all the way from the back.
These red hills with rock formations made the sunset landscape look even redder than normal. Seriously, I had to remove the warm tones a bit from my photos to prevent them from looking too red, and I usually do the opposite. It is worth mentioning that on the way to Zemi Valley from Goreme Open Air Museum is a beautiful open-air pottery store that looks out of this world. It has trees decorated with evil eye stones, an alien and a bunch of other amazing things. You don’t have to do the entire Zemi Valley hike, it is long and time-consuming but you can do a part of it.
