Sony has announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will launch globally for PS5 on 20th October, 2023. After a prolonged period in which the exact date was a mystery, it’s great to finally know when the game is due. Tombstone, another infamous villain, has traded in his leather jacket for a Coney Island carnie’s uniform (and yes, the rides are adorably fun).

 

This physical manifestation is also representative of mental health issues that have developed for each Spider-Man. Venom hangs over the main characters like a spectre of grief, drenching them in black as if in a state of mourning. According to credible rumors, Marvel’s Venom by Insomniac Games is doing well, and gamers suspect it could become a launch title for the PlayStation 6. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a singleplayer game, not featuring online play of any sort. Venom also appeared for a brief moment in the reveal trailer, and again in the more recent Story Trailer too.

 

These reflective moments deepen not only the game’s stand-out side content, but also its larger plot. Other big fixes include fixing a crash that happened while quitting Spider-Man 2 too quickly after starting it and another that involved a crash that would happen on quadcore processors after turning ray tracing on. It’s already a great-looking game, though now that it is on PC, players will likely want to push Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to its limits. This new update works to make this possible, with another fix addressing an annoying issue with brightness, contrast, and other visual effects that caused them to reset. Before she dies, May reveals that she knows he is Spider-Man and is proud of him. Following the capture of Wilson Fisk by Spider-Man, a masked gang known as the Inner Demons begins seizing Fisk’s illicit assets. Mary Jane and Spider-Man learn that the Demons are seeking something called Devil’s Breath. With the aid of Officer Jefferson Davis, Spider-Man thwarts a Demon attack. Jefferson is lauded for his heroism at a re-election event for Mayor Norman Osborn. The Demons attack the event, killing Jefferson and many other attendees.

 

This guide was specially crafted for the PS5 version of Spider-Man 2 and also applies to the 2025 PC version. Where the first game starred Peter Parker, and its spin-off starred Miles, this one has both. Story missions choose for you, but often swap seamlessly between them as the action demands. Out in the open world, you’re free to change at will, with only a handful of activities requiring one or the other. PC Gamer’s got your back

 

Other than that, they have one exclusive skill tree each, making for three in total. We’ll gain many abilities known from the previous games as well as some entirely new ones, unique for each character, coming in handy in combat and during stealth. Miles, for example, can attach a string of web between two specific points, letting him get above enemies and take them out quietly – even two at a time if they position themselves correctly. Peter chooses to save everyone else, which leads to a tearful goodbye from his loved one. Otto Octavius later turns into Doc Ock and frees Mr. Negative, Electro, Vulture, Rhino and Scorpion to form the Sinister Six. While Mary Jane informs Peter of the location of the cure, Spider-Man is forced to build a new armored suit in order to defeat Doc Ock, who has beaten Spider-Man and taken Osborn and the cure. After struggling to deal with Kingpin in the prequel novel, Spider-Man successfully defeats him at the beginning of the game (don’t worry, he’ll be back, though), which opens up the door for a new crime gang to take over the throne.

 

As well as this, Scott Porter – who voiced Harry Osborn in the first Spider-Man game – confirmed that the character will be appearing in the sequel. In a now-deleted tweet, the actor revealed that, while the character will be coming back, he will not be lending his voice to the role. Obviously, it wouldn’t be a Spider-Man game without the man of the hour, Peter Parker. Players will reprise the role of Spidey in Insomniac’s sequel, stepping into the shoes of the friendly neighborhood hero – though he won’t be alone.

 

Miles must find a way to help his friend while handling Kraven and the Lizard, with all of New York City’s fate at stake. Unlike its two predecessors, the game was developed entirely with the PlayStation 5 in mind. It was created by the American studio Insomniac Games – known for such series as Resistance, Ratchet & Clank and the original Spyro trilogy – since 2020 part of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). The custom console is a new black, white, and red design, intending to highlight Symbiote tendrils encroaching on the Spider-Man logo.

 

They won’t just try to out-fight you, but they’ll also aim to out-think you. Enemies like Kraven the Hunter’s allies use techniques, counters and equipment to stalk Spider-Man like prey, forcing you to change up your tactics. Now you can build up height and speed with web-swinging before quickly switching to Web Wings to glide in areas like Queens, where there are few tall buildings. With the new interactive elements like super slingshots and wind tunnels that act as jet streams, Spider-Man has never been faster in the air. The Biomechanical suit is a unique design by Jerad Marantz specifically for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

 

003 Update Suits

 

In its Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC blog post, for instance, Sony highlights, “new raytracing options with individual quality settings to finetune performance and fidelity across a broad range of hardware configurations”. There’s also talk of settings for raytraced interiors, shadows, and ambient occlusion – adding what Sony calls “an additional layer of believability with realistic shadows and increased depth to the game”. Insomniac Games has crafted something to take advantage of the mighty capabilities of PS5.
